Automotive Wiring Harness Market Overview:

Global automotive wiring harness market was valued at $66,543 million in 2015, and is expected to reach $93,069 million by 2022, growing at a CAGR of 5.1% from 2016 to 2022. Automotive wiring harness is an electrical assembly of various components in a vehicle that transmits power and information to a single system. It plays an important role in transmitting information about the operation of the vehicle, sending & receiving sensor signals, and supplying power. The components that are assembled include speed sensors, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, electrical devices, and other electronic components. In the automotive wiring harness industry, the wires are first cut to the desired length, usually using a special wire-cutting machine. The wires may also be printed on by a special machine during the cutting process or on a separate machine. After this, the ends of the wires are stripped to expose the metal (or core), which are fitted to the required terminals or connector housings. The cables are assembled and clamped together on a special workbench or onto a pin board (assembly board), according to the design specification, to form the cable harness. After fitting the required protective sleeves, conduit, or extruded yarn, the harness is either fitted directly in the vehicle or shipped.

The automotive wiring harness market is driven by the rapid growth of automobile industry owing to various technologically advanced features implemented in vehicles. High competition exists among car manufacturers to design cars with various safety features and electronic gadgets. In contrast to the conventional wiring methods, automotive wiring harness provides secure and reliable connections, among such gadgets. In addition, deploying such wiring harness systems improves the fuel efficiency of the vehicle and complies with the ongoing government regulations for fuel usage and emissions. These advantages of automotive wiring harness in turn is fueling the market growth. However, overheating or short circuit of the wiring harness in regions with extreme climatic conditions, such as rain and snow results in high cost of replacement of the entire, which are restraining the market growth. The increase in use of safety sensors, such as blind spot detection and automated steering control systems, provides numerous opportunities for market expansion.

Asia-Pacific Hub of Leading Manufacturers

Increase in use of speed sensors wiring harness and HVAC wiring harness owing to high demand for premium vehicles, and rise of upper middle class in Asia Pacific is boosting the demand for automotive wiring harness. Infrastructural development in this region are also driving the market growth, as it increases the demand for heavy vehicles that require technologically upgraded automobile wires & cables with heat insulation. Moreover, emerging countries, such as India and China, manufacture a large number of both heavy and light vehicles, which accelerates the demand for automotive wiring harness.

Increase in number of Government Regulations towards Fuel Usage and Emissions

U.S., Germany, France, and China have implemented government laws and regulations for vehicular emission, and have mandated automobile manufacturers to use advanced technologies to combat high emission levels in vehicles. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) launched a California Vehicle Emissions Program, which includes guidelines for manufacturers to produce and deliver zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs). The current ZEV regulations mandate substantial increase in production and sale of low-emission gasoline and diesel engine vehicles, particularly for the 2018‐2025 model years. By 2025 model year, approximately 15% of the total sales volume of manufacturers in California may be accounted for through the sales of these vehicles. Moreover, the European Union directives and related legislations limit the amount of regulated pollutants that can be emitted by new motor vehicles and engines sold in the EU. Automotive wiring harness is reported to increase fuel efficiency and lower down vehicular emission levels; therefore, incorporation of advanced wiring harness is expected to result in production of fuel efficient and eco-friendly vehicles.

Development of Aluminum Wiring Harness

Aluminum is used for vehicle electrification to support the overall weight reduction targets, which leads to improvement in fuel economy and reduces the CO2 emissions. Thus, aluminum is gaining popularity in the wiring harness industry to replace heavier copper conductors. In addition to large cross-section wires for power cables, where aluminum conductors are already in use, the intermediate aluminum cable cross section of 2.5 mm2 to 6.0 mm2 provides enhanced potential for car implementation to achieve weight-saving targets.

The leading players operating in the automotive wiring harness market is focused to expand their business operations in emerging countries by consistently introducing innovative solutions to enhance their product portfolio.
