A cloth that can conduct electricity is known as an electronic textile. It can detect changes in its environment and react by emitting light, music, or radio waves if integrated with electronic components. Textiles with electronics and connections woven into them are referred to as electronic textiles (e-textiles). In contrast to popular wearables such as smartwatches and fitness bracelets, they do not look like one is carrying around tiny computers. They are comfortable and easy to wear, work around the clock in the background, or can take periodic readings. Smart clothing can even be fashionable.

This means that while a wearer is exercising, their fitness gear itself can measure heart rate, breath rate, or body temperature.
Through measuring heart rate, users can measure when they have optimal heart rate intervals for warmup/cooldown, cardio, or weight loss levels. Users can warn themselves with an alarm if their heart rate spikes or is too high and they need to take a break, such as during extensive hikes on difficult terrain or at different altitudes. Heart rate and body temperature data can help wearers stay informed of their body’s performance stats and improve their performance over time.
However, wearable technologies have various privacy and security concerns. These devices help to monitor heart rate, measure quality of sleep, and measure calories burned during a day.
