Surface preparation is a method which is used to improve the adhesive strength of a surface. The process includes cleaning the surface and providing a proactive coating to the surface. Metallic surface treatment is a process where metal parts are prepared for painting.

The surface films which are used in chemical conversion coatings are formed by a means of a non-electrolytic chemical reaction that occurs between the metal surface and solution.
