Rammer is a mechanical device which is used for leveling and breaking the surface. It forms a uniform level surface by pressing soil or sand repeatedly under its weight. It has two components—handle and a head. The weight of the head should be enough to press the soil or sand according to the requirement. Cast iron is usually used for the manufacturing the head of rammer, while wood or other metals can be used for manufacturing the handle. Head of the rammer usually offers a smooth surface, which helps in leveling the soil or sand. Pneumatic rammers are powered by air, which reduces the chances of tool overheating. Battery powered rammer consists of a battery for power supply. Diesel rammers, two cycle engine, and four cycle engine rammers consist of internal combustion engine which is the source of power to rammer. These types of rammers are usually required at mines and oil & gas extraction sites.
