Sodium tungstate is an inorganic material having the chemical formula Na2WO4. It is manufactured via treatment of tungsten ores with sodium compounds such as sodium hydroxide or sodium carbonate. It is a white colored solid with water-soluble nature and crystalline form. It is used as a catalyst in epoxidation of alkenes & oxidation of alcohols into aldehydes or ketones. In addition, it is utilized in examination of serum protein & serum protein-free filtrate; as alkaloid precipitating agent; and in manufacture of metal tungsten, tungstate, tungsten oxide, waterproof fabric, & fireproof fabric.
The growth of the global sodium tungstate market is driven by increase in demand for tungstate market as antidiabetic and anti-obesity agent in rapidly growing medical industry. However, volatility in raw material availability & prices hampers the market growth. Increasing range of applications is expected to provide growth opportunities for the market.
