A touch probe is a technology that enables machine tools to perform geometrical measurements inside its working bed. The touch probe acts as a high precision switch and when it is integrated with a machine manufacturing process, it can determine workpiece & tool sizes and trace part locations. Thus, this technology enhances workpiece quality, improves productivity, and reduces an operators set-up time.

The touch probe technology integrates with the machine to move the probe along a programmed direction. Once the stylus touches the job part, a signal is transmitted to the CNC machine. The CNC machine can then store relevant axes positions and elaborate the part geometry with the help of probing software.
