Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is an emergency procedure that combines chest compressions often with artificial ventilation in an effort to manually preserve intact brain function until further measures are taken to restore spontaneous blood circulation and breathing in a person who is in cardiac arrest. It is recommended for patients who are unresponsive with no breathing or abnormal breathing, for example, axonal respirations. CPR involves chest compressions for adults between 5 cm (2.0 in) and 6 cm (2.4 in) deep and at a rate of at least 100 to 120 per minute. The rescuer may also provide artificial ventilation by either exhaling air into the subject's mouth or nose (mouth-to-mouth resuscitation) or using a device that pushes air into the subject's lungs (mechanical ventilation). Over the past 25 years, a variety of alternatives to conventional manual CPR have been developed in an effort to enhance perfusion during attempted resuscitation from cardiac arrest and to improve survival. Mechanical CPR devices provide an automated way to deliver high-quality CPR. Mechanical chest compression devices deliver high-quality external chest compressions, in place of a human rescuer. A number of devices are currently marketed, but devices can be broadly categorized as load distributing band or piston devices, based on the mechanism that is used to deliver compressions.

Covid-19 Scenario analysis:

The coronavirus COVID-19 is affecting 213 countries and territories around the world. COVID-19 has created new challenges that are requiring manufacturers to innovate at speeds they never have before. Supply chain disruptions, social distancing on high-touch assembly lines, limited ability to travel, and the need for oversight add significant complexity to today’s processes. The outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has created a global health crisis that has had a deep impact on the manufacturing market there is a shortage in supply of raw materials from Chinese manufacturers which has resulted in a severe demand-supply gap. The manufacturers are further expected to be stranded on raw material orders owing to the logistics industry being significantly impacted due to lockdown amid COVID-19. This has all affected the market adversely causing a slowdown in the Automated CPR devices market due to shortage of supply and manufacturing.

Top impacting factors: Market Scenario Analysis, Trends, Drivers and Impact analysis:

Drivers:

Rise in Geriatric population and prevalence of Respirator disorders:

Mechanical cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) devices have seen increased use in recent years. With the emphasis placed on the performance of uninterrupted high-quality CPR, it naturally follows that a mechanical device which is not subject to variation and fatigue from which human rescuers suffer would improve on manual CPR and increase survival. Rise in geriatric population will be one of the major factors responsible for the growth of automated CPR devices market in the future. Elderly population is prone to majority of the chronic diseases, such as respiratory diseases, cancer and diabetes. CPR was introduced 30 years ago to 'resuscitate the victim of an acute insult. Since then the scope of CPR has widened so that any patient who suffers a cardiac arrest in hospital is a potential candidate for CPR. CPR devices are chest compression systems that provide high quality compression to patients suffering from sudden cardiac arrest to provide a steady flow of oxygen and blood in the brain as well as heart. The CPR device finds application in EMS, hospitals, ambulances, coronary and intensive care units, cardiac catheterization labs, air medevac units, EMT rescue units, and others. Such wide application and requirement in the market acts as a driver.

Technological advancements:

Mechanical chest compressions during cardiac arrest have improved hemodynamic variables in porcine and human studies and been documented to be safe with equal survival rates to high quality manual chest compressions during OHCA. The use of active compression-decompression CPR (ACD-CPR), with active decompression to a higher level than the normal anatomical level, has showed promising results compared to standard chest compressions in both animals and humans. The mechanical devices used in the animal lab were impossible to bring into the field, and use of the handheld device did not deliver the same level of standardization and continuity as mechanical devices, resulting in lower fractions of ACD-CPR adhering to guidelines. The handheld device has been studied extensively, both alone and combined with an impedance threshold device (ITD). Systematic reviews of a study conclude that neither manual ACD-CPR nor the ITD-device during manual CPR improve long time survival. However, Aufderheide et al. (researcher) demonstrated increased survival when combining the two techniques. No commercially available automatic mechanical chest compression device has so far been able to perform ACD-CPR. Such a device would be of both academic and clinical interest since a mechanical device can enable consistent high quality ACD-CPR independent of rescuer fatigue. Thus the advancements in the technology will be promoting market growth in future.

Restrains:

High cost of the equipment and the lack of trained professional in handling the device are the main restrains for the market growth.
