Carbon Fiber Textile Market Outlook – 2030

Carbon Fiber Textiles is a manufacturing industry that creates synthetic products by heating a substance known as a precursor-like fiber at extremely high temperatures ranging from 2000 to 3000 degrees Celsius. At the tow, a continuous fiber bundle, this process produces non-carbon molecules such as hydrogen and oxygen. Carbon fiber is now widely used in everything from tennis rackets to bicycle frames. It has become an important component of Formula One cars as well as many supercars. Several cruisers make extensive use of carbon fiber. However, because carbon fiber is not a part of most people's daily textile needs, many people are unaware that it has become an indisputable part of their lives. Carbon fiber is a very light and strong fiber derived from the element carbon. When this extremely strong material, also known as graphite fiber, is combined with a polymer resin, a superior composite product is produced. Carbon fiber, also known as graphite fiber or carbon graphite, is a material composed of extremely thin strands of the element carbon. Carbon fibers have a high tensile strength and are extremely durable for their size. In fact, carbon fiber may be the strongest material ever discovered. Each fiber is 5-10 microns in diameter in technical terms.

COVID-19 Impact analysis

  • COVID-19 reduced output in a variety of industries, including automotive, construction, and aerospace. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the global automotive supply industry.
  • Most parts of the world have seen a halt in the production and sale of automobiles. The aerospace and defense industry, which is a major end-user of carbon fiber, will suffer significantly in 2020 as a result of COVID-19.
  • Some aerospace manufacturers, such as Boeing and Rolls-Royce, have even announced production cuts. As a result, COVID-19 has a negative impact on the carbon fiber market.

Top Impacting factors

The significant increase in demand for carbon fiber fabrics for the production of composite structural parts used in aircraft has resulted in a significant increase in demand in the global carbon fiber market. Several countries around the world are investing in aerospace and defense to strengthen their air forces, thereby increasing the growth potential of the global carbon fiber market. In addition, the growing demand for fuel efficient vehicles and the increasing use of carbon fiber in the wind industry are expected to drive the growth of this market. However, players should be aware of the rising cost of carbon fiber and insufficient production capacity, as these factors may limit the growth of the global carbon fiber market. Manufacturers must overcome these constraints to meet the growing demand for carbon in 3D printing and other applications.

Market Trends

  • Acquisitions
  • On January 2019, Mitsubishi Corp. completed the acquisition of ELG Carbon Fiber (ECF) and acquired a 25% stake in the company. MC will assist in the marketing and sales of ECF recycled carbon fiber products as a result of this acquisition. Furthermore, it will aid in the expansion of ECF's recycling operations. ECF can now rely on MC to help them expand their global business and ensure a steady supply of reprocessed carbon fiber.
  • • Ahlstrom Munksjö Glass discovered a unidirectional carbon fiber fabric that only works in one direction. This new fabric can laminate up to 165 or more diapers at the same time. Previously, the unidirectional sprayed carbon fiber fabric could only cover 120 layers. The company created it in response to changes in the size and thickness of wind turbine blades.
  • • The most versatile carbon fiber precursor is polyacrylonitrile. It is a synthetic semi-crystalline polymer resin known as Creslan 61. PAN is used in the production of nearly 90% of carbon fiber. During the carbon fiber manufacturing process, the PAN precursor material is first spun into a fiber form. It is then stretched and subjected to an oxidizing atmosphere and temperatures ranging from 200 to 240 °C for 24 hours. The stabilized fibers are then heated in an inert atmosphere to 1500 °C. The fibers are then heated in an inert environment to 3000 °C, causing graphitization.
  • China is the world's largest automobile manufacturer. The country's automotive sector has been preparing for product evolution, with the country focusing on manufacturing products that ensure fuel economy and minimize emissions, in response to growing environmental concerns in the country as pollution levels rise. However, the market shrank with production falling by 4.2 percent and 7.5 percent, respectively, in those years. The trade war between China and the United States, combined with low domestic demand, is the primary cause of the drop in sales.
