Ceramic Membrane Market Analysis:

Ceramic membrane is a manmade membrane, which is produced from inorganic materials such as zirconium oxide, titania, silicon carbide, and alumina that are used to   discrete harmful acids and strong solvents. This material exhibits enhanced chemical, thermal, and mechanical stability. They can be used in high-temperature membrane operations and are bio stable. Ceramic membranes are used to separate particulate matter from a fluid stream in a variety of separation systems. They are generally composed of an asymmetrical structure and usually have two to three different levels of porosity. Advantages of ceramic membranes include resistance to ageing, reliability, mechanical stability even under a large pressure gradient, backwash ability, resistance to abrasion, better control over pore dimension fouling, effective environmentally sustainable, and ability to operate at wide operational temperatures.

COVID-19 impact analysis

  • The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak has led to a temporary slowdown of the economic growth of countries across the world. These halts in operations are directly impacting the revenue flow of the ceramics market.
  • China is a key country in the transparent ceramics market in Asia-Pacific. Owing to this outbreak, most of the ceramic factories in China have been shut. In addition, many Chinese ceramic makers slowed down production.
  • The commercial community is frightened on account of cash crisis, supply chain disturbance, and manpower-related issues. All the shipments from different countries are on hold as all the national and international borders are sealed, which affected import and export of goods.
  • The COVID-19 pandemic affects the global food industry as governments close down restaurants and bars to slow the spread of the virus. Closures of restaurants caused a serve effect among related industries such as food production, liquor, wine, and beer production, food & beverage shipping, fishing, and farming.

Top impacting factors: market scenario analysis, trends, drivers, and impact analysis

The ceramic membrane market has witnessed substantial growth due to their features such as enhanced thermal stability, increase in application in high-temperature membrane operations, and their extensive use as filtration material for water & wastewater treatment. Owing to these properties, ceramic membranes are used in a wide range of end-user industries, such as biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, dairy, food & beverages, chemical and petrochemical, microelectronics, metal finishing, power generation, clarification juices and beer cans, sterilization of milk, and recovery of materials. Ceramic membranes are used to obtain high process yield without much divergence in the quality.

Increase in demand for high-purity filtration components in water & wastewater treatment, food & beverages, and pharmaceutical applications will significantly drive the ceramic membrane market growth. Water and wastewater treatment is the major application of ceramic membranes, which fuels the market growth. This is attributed to alarming increase in issues of water shortage, rise in concern about quality water, and surge in need for water desalination procedures.

Upsurge in demand from the pharmaceutical industry is one of the major factors driving ceramic membrane market growth. The growth of the healthcare industry is majorly influenced by the aging population, changes in lifestyles, unhealthy eating habits, and increased occurrences of diseases such as diabetes and cancer. This drives the demand for ceramic membranes since it is primarily used in various pharmaceutical applications, including hemodialysis and in treating renal disorders.

However, high capital costs of the product are likely to hamper market growth of ceramic membranes.

Surge in usage in ceramic membranes and industrial applications

The global ceramic membrane market by region is segmented into North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and LAMEA. Asia-Pacific is the largest and the fastest growing market for ceramic membranes, due to increase in demand for high-purity filtration components in several applications, such as pharmaceutical, food & beverages, and water treatment. China is the leading country and the rapidly growing market in Asia-Pacific. Pharmaceutical is the second largest application segment. Further applications of ceramic membrane include food & beverages and chemical processing.

The ceramic membranes on the basis of technologies divided into ultrafiltration (UF), microfiltration (MF), and nano filtration (NF). These technologies are used in various end-user industries to meet the increasing demand of quality, filtered, and recycled products along with overcoming water scarcity problems. As compared to other conventional filtration methods, ceramic membrane is used in industries such as dairy, which provide flexible and high crop and optimum quality production of products such as cheese and yogurt. In addition, it provides the ability to producers to manufacture premium products irrespective of change in procurement of raw materials.
