Get detailed COVID-19 impact analysis on the E Coli Testing Market
Request Now !Escherichia coli or E. coli is specified to be a bacterium that generally lives in the guts of humans and animals. There are some types of E. coli, which are an important part of a healthy human intestinal system. Moreover, others are pathogenic and may cause illness or diarrhea. Diarrhea, hence caused, can be transmitted through contaminated water and food or even through contact with animals or other people. There are various Pathogenic E. coli strains, which are classified according to the pathotypes. Almost six pathotypes of E. coli are there associated with diarrhea and are referred to as diarrhea genic E. coli. Major signs and symptoms of the E. coli infection are diarrhea, abdominal pain, and nausea and vomiting. The cases of E. coli infection are usually confirmed by the detection of bacteria in stool samples of the infected individuals. It is mainly found in contaminated food or contaminated water, including untreated drinking water, and the feces of infected people. Furthermore, the bacterium is also present on the surface of animals, mainly sheep, cows, and goats.
COVID-19 scenario analysis:
During the early phase of the outbreak of the coronavirus disease-2, the diagnostic kits for the testing of the virus were unavailable, which led to global increase in the need for the major leaders to invest upon the R&D of the kits required. The kits which were available for the other viral strains to be tested were allowed to be used, but were inefficient. This unavailability of specific COVID-19 diagnostic tests brought lucrative opportunities for the manufacturers of such diagnostic procedures, to introduce their COVID-19 diagnostic kits. The key leaders as well as some start-ups from various countries took maximum advantage of this opportunity and introduced COVID-19 diagnostics kits into the market. These players achieved superiority over other diagnostics players capitalizing the opportunity from demand for COVID-19 diagnostic tests, which, in turn, aids them in maintaining their revenues in such a crisis.
The market is driven by factors such as, rise in prevalence of diarrhea and Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS), and increase in number of water-borne disease, especially are being found more in under developed and the developing countries, would boost the industry in the forecast period. The global concern towards the improvement of quality of life has led to the need for the timely testing of the food and water that are consumed and also avoid the ingestion of the contaminated products henceforth, which is anticipated to help the industry grow in the coming years. However, the reliability of the testing kits, may hamper the growth in the commenced period.
In September 2017, PLOS ONE, developed a novel paper based DipTest device, similar to a litmus test, for detection of E. coli bacteria in water samples. This device is easy to fabricate and simple to test the water samples.
In July 2019, Bio-Rad will be introducing a test kit that can precisely detect Shiga toxin-producing E. coli pathogens in the food products, including meat and poultry. This dd-Check STEC Solution utilizes ddPCR technology to distinguish double-positive linked, true virulence genes in a sample from samples containing single-positive or unlinked virulence genes, minimizing the number of false-positive Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) results. The detection and linkage verification of targets in a single bacterium enhances the precision of pathogenic E. coli testing.
In 2011, due to the E. coli outbreak, the World health Organization supported the coordination of collection of information, sharing and collaboration through International Health Regulations and the International Food Safety Authorities Network (INFOSAN) globally. It worked closely with national health authorities and international partners, in order to provide technical assistance and the latest information on outbreaks.
