Fiber to the Home Market Outlook – 2026

Fiber to the home is the technology used for connecting various premises, buildings, and apartments with optic fiber. It helps in transferring high internet speed from one central point to all other premises near a central point such as residential and commercial buildings. These optical fiber cables are made up of tiny glasses that comprise light beams. The several advantages optical fiber offer over conventional cables include fastest & easiest way of accessing internet, provides high bandwidth that enables high quality video streaming, conferencing, and calls.

Vodafone Group Plc, a London-based company declared the commencement of 1 gigabit ultrafast fiber broadband services in Ireland. In addition, the company announced the expansion of Fiber to the home network in Portugal and is expected to reach 2.75 million homes by 2020.

The fiber to the home market is expected to witness growth due to increase in adoption of IoT devices and increase in advancements related to voice internet over protocol applications such as Skype, Facebook messenger, Google voice, and others . The need of Internet has been penetrated across the world, due to the dependency of various industries such as e-commerce, e-governance, banking, and financial services to enhance their supply chain, increase in demand for entertainment such as gaming, 3D high definition television, and remote education. These factors boost the growth of the fiber to the home market owing to meeting the requirement of high-speed internet services.

DSL and other cable modems depend on copper wires for internet, which provides a high bandwidth, however, is unable to cover a distance beyond 100 yards. But this restriction is not applicable with optic fiber cables as it has high bandwidth and can also reach over long distances. The other cables work on maximum five megabits per second speed for transmitting data while an optic fiber can increase the speed up to maximum 100 megabits per second.

Factors such as increase in demand for faster connection speeds, better internet infrastructure, and rise in adoption of smart gadgets are the major factors driving FTTH market growth. However, high initial cost for the deployment of Fiber to the home network act as a major restraint for the market. Furthermore, increase in government initiatives for the development of smart city projects and smart home automation projects provide lucrative opportunities to the FTTH in.

The fiber to the home market is segmented into four categories by network architecture, component, end-user, and region. Based on network architecture, the market is classified into multi-mode, single mode and others. Based on components, the market is segregated into core, coating, cable jacket and cladding. Based on end -use, the market is divided into residential, commercial, and others. Based on region, the market is divided into North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, and LAMEA.
