Gas separation membranes are used to separate gases from a gas mixture when gas particle diameters differ and the difference in gas particle sizes is minimal. Gas separation membrane units are smaller than other types of plants and therefore have relatively smaller tracks.

Gas separation membranes mainly uses polymers as a membrane material for gas separation. Their ability to be processed into hollow fibers with high surface areas make them appealing.
