Genomics is the study of genes and their functioning. Genomics intends to understand the structure of the genome, includes gene mapping, DNA sequencing, and allows exploring the molecular mechanisms and also the interplay of environmental and genetic factors in living organisms. The Transcriptomics is said to be the study of transcriptomes, the complete set of RNA transcripts produced by the genome at any one time. In January 2018, ReadCoor, Inc., a company reinventing genomics and pathology with its panomic spatial sequencing platform, announced a grant from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) and DAF, an advised fund of Silicon Valley Community Foundation, to spatially map cortical cells utilizing Fluorescent in situ Sequencing (FISSEQ) for the Human Cell Atlas.
In December 2018, 10x Genomics announced the acquisition of Stockholm-based Spatial Transcriptomics, a pioneer in the emerging field of spatial genomics. The field offers invaluable insight into understanding disease by using data that was previously beyond the reach of modern methods. This opens up a field of possibilities within disease areas, such as oncology, neurology and immunology, as well as in the broader area of biology.
In March 2017, Takara Bio USA Holdings, Inc. announced that it had completed the acquisition of WaferGen Bio-systems, Inc. WaferGen became a wholly owned subsidiary of TBUSH.
