Glow Wire Test Apparatus Market Overview:

Glow wire test apparatus is used for testing fire resistance and flammability of materials such as PEEK thermoplastics, Polypropylene (PP), rubber, and Polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The test method requires control condition for applying glowing wire to a horizontal or vertical mounted sample. The glow wire testing equipment includes electronic feedback current stabilizer, Ni-Cr wire, regulator, A-meter, thermometer, timer, motor drive, microprocessor, and controllers.

The test results provide the flame resistant properties of the material. Electrical components and connectors that are made up of plastic material have to pass glow wire testing to ensure safe operating standards for their use in electric applications. It is mandatory for the product to conform to the safety standard set by UL 746 Testing, UL 94, International Electrical Commission (IEC), and others.

Testing procedure includes applying glowing wire to the sample for 30 seconds, which has a temperature range of 500 to 900C. The sample is considered to be ignited if a flame occurs for more than 5 seconds. The temperature at which the material does not ignite in is reported as Glow Wire Ignitability Test (GWIT) for materials.
