Digital holography refers to an interferometric imaging phenomenon that is capable in working in absence of an imaging lens and can also be utilized to perform consecutive images of multidimensional inputs, like three-dimensional structures, dynamics, multiple wavelengths and even polarization state of light. Holographic devices produce 3 dimensional images of various objects with the help of split beam of laser light. There are two major types of holography are conventional holographic imaging and dynamic holographic imaging. Conventional holography offers static images of the 3D objects wherein a change in angle of the viewer leads to change of perspective of the imaging object while in dynamic holographic imaging, there is addition of motion to the obtained 2D or 3D images. The addition of motion to the images is a technological advancement in the field of holographic imaging and an upgrade to current 3D displays, which only feature 3D static images. It also increases the applications in potentially major uses such as in radiology, medical education, PACS storage, and providing with more complex anatomic images to present more informative diagnostic reports.

COVID – 19 scenario analysis:

  • The COVID-19 pandemic has emerged as a humanitarian as well as economic crisis, creating strain on the society and affecting millions of people and businesses
  • Industry closures and people are asked to stay in their homes which has cause taken a huge toll in terms of money and economic growth
  • Over 4 million people affected globally, with 300 thousand losing their lives due to SARS-CoV-2
  • Healthcare organizations are already working in battle mode, preparing new plans to respond growing COVID-19 patients, right from sourcing rapid diagnosing kits to sufficient PPE kits for workers
  • Due to diversion of medical field towards treating COVID-19, the funding to R&D activities related to holographic imaging has been reduced and this segment have to face negligence subsequently causing negative impact on holographic imaging market

Top impacting factors: Market Scenario Analysis, Trends, Drivers and Impact Analysis

Rising consciousness regarding utilization of holographic imaging in training and medical education coupled with growing demand for 3D imaging technology among clinicians and physicians will stimulate the growth for holographic imaging market over the coming years. Recently developed holographic imaging systems attribute better efficiency and offers clear 3D images that help in accelerating research processes. Progress in image processing, 3D imaging, electronic detection and advanced computation has facilitated improvisation in disease diagnosis.  Furthermore, the integration of government initiatives in developed countries with high income such as UK and Germany fosters the research procedures in progress for exploring the orthopedic and cardiovascular disorders to achieve better medications and therapeutics thereby, augmenting the growth for holographic imaging systems in the near future. Moreover, there is rise in acceptance of these advanced holographic imaging systems in developing countries like India for conducting research in the biomedical disciple that will further surge the demand for holographic imaging systems in the market.

Rising need for advanced holographic imaging in developed economies will amplify the market development. Constant upgrades in holographic systems attribute enhanced ability in diseases diagnosis and meet the market requirements for minimally invasive diagnosis techniques. Wide range of applicability of holographic imaging in the field of orthopedics, ophthalmology, and dentistry would have positive impact on the industry growth. Holograms have also been used extensively for orthodontic model storage that helps in improving the accuracy of diagnosis and they are preferred owing to their clinical reliability. Additionally, the usage of holography in checking the progress of dental problems and treatment in patients would further augment the growth for holographic imaging systems.

On the contrary, high capital investments associated with processing holograms will potentially impede growth of the holographic imaging market to certain extent.

Technological advancements to augment the market growth

Owing to technological advances in the field of holography would provide immense growth opportunities to the holographic imaging systems market thereby fuelling the growth. Holographic imaging aids the physicians to offer better and infection free diagnosis. The development in holography such as digital holographic microscopy provides 3D images in single capture. For instance, Holoxica Limited introduced innovative holographic 3-Dimensional digital atlas prototype, showcasing the human anatomy to aid medical experts of neuroscience for offering complete mechanism for detection, diagnosis, and therapeutics of neurological disorders.

A Texas-based holographic imaging market player, Zebra Imaging developed the technology programmed to display reality-based holograms called ZScape Holographic Motion Display. With the help of this technology, Zebra Imaging aims to bolster that holographic imaging’s substitution for the scarcity of cadavers in the medical schools. Zebra Imaging also partnered with Zygote Media Group to commercialize this technology.

North American region dominates the market

North America is expected to lead the holographic imaging market throughout. The dominance is due to factors like rise in the prevalence of cardiovascular diseases, increasing usage in medical education and higher adoption of technology in the region is propelling the market in the United States. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, cardiac diseases are a leading cause of death in American men. Drastic rise in healthcare expenditure, availability of a well-developed infrastructure and presence of major industry are the other factors fostering the market in the near future.
