Permeable membranes are selective barriers that allow entry and exit of certain molecules or ions. Ion selective permeable membrane is a type of synthetic permeable membrane that permits outgoing and incoming of selective ions in a system. Membranes selectively permeable to positively and negatively charged ions are termed as cation-exchange membranes and anion-exchange membranes, respectively. These consist of ion channels that facilitate the efficient separation and transport of different ions.
