Rigid ureteroscopy is a treatment for stones in the ureter. In this procedure, a thin telescope is inserted through your urethra under general anesthesia, which gives a path to the ureter. Once the stone is detected then it can be fragmented using a laser. The resultant fragments are then either removed with a fine basket-type device used to pick up any larger pieces or washed like dust. The method often also includes the insertion of a soft plastic tube (stent) between the bladder and kidney and the use of x-rays. This makes sure drainage of urine from the kidney to confirm stone fragments can pass smoothly.
