A block copolymer known as styrene butadiene styrene (SBS) comprises extended styrene blocks, and covalent connections join butadiene sequences. This is a type of thermoplastic elastomer with mechanical qualities similar to rubber and thermoplastic capabilities. It combines the characteristics of rubber and plastic. In addition to other characteristics, it has a high surface friction coefficient, strong electrical performance, good processing performance, and low-temperature performance. The material with the highest rate of thermoplastic elastomer manufacture is typically used in grips and seals, adhesives, and footwear with lower performance demands when aging and chemical resistance are not essential requirements. Due to its features of abrasion-resistance and enhanced strength in comparison to natural rubber, it is the most commonly utilized synthetic rubber in production across numerous manufacturing units like autos, aircraft, chemical, and construction.

Due to the excellent quality and lifespan SBS imparts, which leads to superior tire performance requirements, it is mostly employed in producing tires for lightweight commercial and personal cars. Due to its lower rolling resistance, which reduces the power the engine needs to roll the wheels, it is preferred. In addition, it offers a firm grip during braking, preventing the impact from damaging the car. It also has low abrasion thanks to the hardness of the hard, glassy styrene blocks, making it the ideal material for tire applications. In addition,  because cold SBR exhibits improved abrasion resistance, good dynamic characteristics, less reversion resistance, and higher filler loading in this condition, it is used in lighter-weight tires and other mechanical goods. Shoe producers use the compound to give the outsoles more adhesive strength.
Although vulcanised rubbers are used to make shoe outsoles, these materials have poor adhesive properties, thus SBS is added to increase cohesive strength. Due to its resistance to wear and tear and decreased need for repairs, the device has seen a growth in utilisation in footwear adhesion. The material is used because it produces a sturdy, flexible, and waterproof material—perfect qualities for foot gear such shoe bottoms, boots, ski boots, and athletic shoes. Its use is increased by the addition of styrene, which provides it a high rubber content, low manufacturing cost, and beneficial properties including dimensional stability and the suppression of outgassing or colour migration. The rise in demand for the good is a result of the growing popularity of different types of shoes.

The market for SBS is anticipated to develop in response to the strong growth in demand in the footwear sector. In 2021, the typical American purchased 7.4 pairs of shoes for a record-breaking high of $310.68, according to an American Apparel and Footwear Association poll. It is also anticipated that the rise in the demand for modified bitumen in the construction industry and the increased use of SBS in the footwear industry will serve as important factors promoting the growth of this market.

New product launches to flourish in the market
On February 1, 2022, a reputable leading producer of high-performance, energy-efficient SBS modified bitumen roofing and underlayment systems for commercial and residential applications, MBTechnology Inc., will be acquired by Carlisle Companies Incorporated. The purchase of MBT is a component of Carlisle's more recent Vision 2025 plan, which aims to grow up its most lucrative companies through strategic acquisitions and generate total earnings per share of at least USD 15 per share. MBT is a vital addition to Carlisle's most recent acquisition of Henry Company and is expected to be a component of the Carlisle Construction Materials operating division. For instance, on March 15, 2022, DL Chemical paid USD 2.5 billion to buy Kraton Corporation. Kraton Corporation is a leading producer of styrenic block copolymers and high-value bio-based goods made from waste products from pine wood pulping.

 Segment Overview:

By type: Styrene-butadiene rubber, known as "radical SBS," comprises both vinyl aromatic and aliphatic polymers. High heat, UV, chemical, water vapor, oxygen, and ozone resistance is a feature of this material. Because of its outstanding performance at low temperatures, radical SBS can be used for underlayment and acoustic applications.
By application: However, the harm that heat exposure causes to the SBS-applied regions can impede market revenue growth for the given term. It is used in the production of many products to enhance their qualities. Still, it does not offer heat resistance, which is necessary for items like clothing and footwear that are frequently exposed to direct sunlight for long periods. In addition, it degenerates since it is not sunlight-resistant and turns brittle and plastic. During the projected period, market revenue growth is anticipated to be constrained by the low temperature of the product's performance, causing product degradation.

By region: Due to rising demand for SBS from numerous applications, including tires, polymer modification, adhesives, which will further drive the market, Asia-Pacific is predicted to develop at the highest CAGR over the forecast period. Due to the expanding markets for medical devices and footwear adhesives & sealants, the Asia-Pacific region is expected to experience rapid expansion in the next years. The main forces behind industry expansion are rising per capita disposable income and robust growth in the manufacturing sector. According to World Footwear, Asia consumed more shoes than any other region in the  globe in 2021.
