It is manufactured via treatment of tungsten ores with sodium compounds such as sodium hydroxide or sodium carbonate. It is a white colored solid with water-soluble nature and crystalline form. It is used as a catalyst in epoxidation of alkenes & oxidation of alcohols into aldehydes or ketones. In addition, it is utilized in examination of serum protein & serum protein-free filtrate; as alkaloid precipitating agent; and in manufacture of metal tungsten, tungstate, tungsten oxide, waterproof fabric, & fireproof fabric.
