Laser is referred to as the device which produces highly directional light. It emits light through a procedure of stimulated emission of radiation, which increases the intensity of light. The word ‘LASER’ stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. Some of the rare earth elements used in it are cerium, erbium, and terbium. The semiconductor laser is the laser which uses electrical energy as the pump source. In these lasers a p-n junction of a semiconductor diode is used as an active medium. The optical is produced within the semiconductor material. This laser plays a major role in everyday life. They are cheap with compact size and consume less power. The lasers are also called as laser diodes. These lasers have wide variety of applications in the medical sectors such as in the dermatology, dentistry and so on. They provide effective and convenient treatment for the problems related to skin and dentistry.
