From the past few years, there has been a rise in interest in the use of washer disinfectors for cleaning medical instruments before they are sterilized. Washer disinfectors are medical-grade dishwashers that use a high-intensity spray system to blast dirt and debris off of the medical instruments. These also have the capability to thermally disinfect the instruments load prior to moving to the sterilizer. Washer disinfectors are a substitute of traditional ultrasonic cleaning machines. Ultrasonic disinfectors produce high-frequency sound waves in an immersion tank which leave millions of microscopic voids in the liquid. On the surface of all the instruments, immersed in the cleaning solution, those partial vacuum bubbles (microscopic voids) continually implode and create enormous energy. Thus, it efficiently cleans up the instrument with superior penetrating power. On the other hand, washer disinfectors depend upon a liquid alkaline solution sometimes combined with phosphates and enzymes which are very effective chemicals in removing blood and debris. These solutions have a pH range from 11 to 12 although there are solutions available with pH value 13 and more. The disadvantage with washer disinfectors is that if parts of instruments do not get exposed to the spray they may not get cleaned.Â
The corona virus outbreak all over the globe has created medical emergency. Due to which, there is an increase in the demand for food items, hygiene products, and medical products in the market. The rise in number of patients in this medical emergency boost the demand for medical equipment, which also includes washer disinfectors. However, the supply chains of pharmaceutical and medical products are grappling on a global scale to keep pace with the rapid spread of the corona virus.Â
Surge in application in advanced healthcare equipment increased the demand for high performance washer disinfector to serve hygiene care standards. The supreme importance of health and occupational safety is expected to help the washer disinfector market to remain profitable. Owing to the growing awareness regarding the compatible wide ranging materials, the demand for the chemical disinfection mechanism is expected to experience growth in the washer disinfectors market.
Washer disinfectors are an integral part of hospitals for maintaining hygiene and preventing from infection transmission. Washer disinfectors intend for emptying, flushing, cleaning and disinfecting reusable containers used in surgeries and medical operations. These help prevent the risk of infection and transmission of deadly virus, ailments, and blood borne diseases. These reduce the need of manual process of disinfecting and cleaning the instruments.Â
The surge in the widespread presence of chronic diseases and increase in number of immune compromised patients is the prime driver of washer disinfectors industry. In addition, there has been an increase in the number of hospitals and health infrastructure, to boost the demand for washer disinfectors.
The global washer disinfectors market trends are as follows:
New products that contain improved capabilities have been launched by leading market players. They have taken necessary steps to improve accuracy of devices and overall functionality as well. For instance, in April 2019 Getinge announced the launch of new S-8668T model in the 86-series of washer disinfectants, which is developed to increase reprocessing throughput within the central sterile department. It has the turbo multitasking technology which cut down the processing time upto 25% and thereby the overall utility consumption is increased.
High cost associated with washer disinfectors and improper legislation hinder the growth of the market. The installation cost and maintenance cost is very high for the washer disinfector machine. In addition, some countries lack a proper legislation which can control hygiene process and working conditions in the hospitals.
Rise in awareness for environmental protection also restrains the use of washer disinfectors. Washer disinfectors use chemicals which need proper disposing process after cleaning the instrument. Many times, in poor regions, the hospitals do not have a proper sewage system and proper disposing system for the wastes, which is minimizing the amounts of chemical used in washer disinfectors with chemical disinfection mechanism holding the potential to restrain the demand for washer disinfectors.
